Otherside Picnic series by Iori Miyazawa:

The premise is intriguing. Complicated and flawed lesbian characters are trapped in a creepy realm where creepypastas and urban legends are true.

The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells:

I really like the first book but haven't read the sequels. Perhaps the coming years will be the time to catch up.

Every other series recced to me:
They all sound fantastic. I will get to them eventually.

Girls' Last Tour: 12 Episodes. Two girls travel together to scourge for food and supplies in a wasteland, speculating about the past and sometimes coming across other survivors. Post-apocalyptic slice of life that's not quite grim. Life's hard, but there's still simple joy.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō (Yokohama's Shopping Log): Humanity has entered the twilight stage and has quietly accepted its fate after the ecology collapse. Post-apocalyptic slice of life with an android running a coffee shop. It's very quiet and serene.

Humanity Has Declined: Adapted from a light novel series, the heroine acts as a mediator between humanity and the "fairies" who are small elf-like creatures attracted by sweets and happy things when humanity is in decline.  It has a good fix of dry humour, satire, and unsettling weirdness.

Sunday Without God: Adapted from a light novel series. The world's abandoned by the god, so there's no longer birth and death. Only "gravekeepers" can put people to final rest. Ai's one of them, and her life is changed when a stranger Hambart kills everyone in her village. The story is about her self-proclaimed journey to save the world, and her encounter with people who deal with their life in different ways.

Donyatsu (Donut Cat): Humanity has disappeared. A group of donut shaped cats try to survive and find out what's happened.

School-Live: Yuki Takeya is a cheerful school girl who seeks out fun school activities every day while living at school, while the other girls keep her safe because in reality, they are the sole survivors of their school after a zombie outbreak overruns the city. I really like the contrast of horror and Yuki's fantasy.

"It is dull, Son of Adam, to drink without eating," said the Queen presently. "What would you like best to eat?"

"Turkish Delight, please, your Majesty," said Edmund.

The Queen let another drop fall from her bottle on to the snow, and instantly there appeared a round box, tied with green silk ribbon, which, when opened, turned out to contain several pounds of the best Turkish Delight. Each piece was sweet and light to the very centre and Edmund had never tasted anything more delicious. He was quite warm now, and very comfortable.

Beecarbonize is an environmental card strategy game with climate change as your opponent.

Research cutting-edge technologies, enact policies, protect ecosystems, and modernize industry to cut down carbon emissions. Manage your resources well and you might survive.

Beecarbonize is fast paced, educational and fun. It requires you to balance resources and researches and races against the clock to save the world while dealing with anxiety inducing crisis. The world will explode when you try to balance long term development and solving crisis. The game play is smooth. The way it visualizes the tipping point of climate crisis is neat. It's also anxiety inciting when multiple crisis break out at the same time to deal with. It really makes you think about the environment.

For such a polished game, it's totally free and available on Android, ios, Steam & itch.io (PC)

"Today, smash your heroic nemesis! Tomorrow, build a doomsday device to take over the world! But, wait, are your henchpeople going on strike?!"

Top Villain: Total Domination is a 228,000-word interactive comedy supervillain novel by Brandon Greer, which you play a supervillain planning world domination in Saturday cartoon style. The main character (MC) has to deal with the interplanetary hero Matchless Man (which the MC can choose to have foeyay with), an intrepid reporter caught snooping in their lair, and a surprise inspection from the supervillain organization Multitude of Murderous Malcontents, with rules against world domination. And MC's henchpeople went on strike.

And MC's mum was calling.

Review:

It's silly and endearing fun, a love letter to the colourful and weird Saturday cartoons. I love a lot at the jokes in the games. It's very forgiving in stat check, but the plot is linear, so it may affect the replayability. Matchless Man and the reporter Whitney Wang had a lot of depth.

Last Saturday was so hot that I decided to escape to the cinema for the 5-hour (with break in between the two films) experience of Barbenheimer. It was totally worth it. I'll put spoilers under a cut.

They are very entertaining. I love the songs and the jokes and the characters in Barbie. I also get sucked into the intense drama and the coming disaster in Oppenheimer, which kept my attention for 3 hours.

Both films surprisingly have a lot in common. They have very strong sense of places and locations and are visually striking. I love all the details of the pink Barbieland. I also really like the focus of Cambridge, University of California, Berkeley, Princeton, Los Alamos, New Mexico. I felt like I was thrown back to the past, which greatly influenced the characters. They both have a lot to say about the structural problems of the society.

In this enchanted sexual escapade, will you revel with mysterious rogues, wily Fae, the Prince, or the Princess? Where will your heart and loyalty lead you as the kingdom trembles on the edge of war?

Their Majesties’ Pleasure is a 225,000-word interactive text based erotic fantasy novel by Leia Talon, which you plays a royal guard with duty to protect the royal heirs, who in turn leads your character (PC) to revel with mysterious rogues and wily faes. However, the country is now at the brink of two sided wars thanks to the king's stubbornness, and you are pivotal to build peace for your country. It's available on Steam, Android or iphone/ipad.

The PC can be a man, woman or non-binary. The romantic interest includes the prince, the princess, the fae queen, the fae crown prince and the rogue. Everyone but the princess is open to poly relationship, but you can choose a monogamous route too. It is very freeing that PC can flirt and have sex with everyone before deciding their route, and it's OK in the game.

The plot is very solid. Both the romance and the political plot are interesting. You can really enjoy the hedonistic atmosphere, and the description of food and the surroundings is sensual. The RO and non-romancable NPC are distinctive in their personalities, and I really enjoy when my PC befriends everyone. The romance can be very hot or sweet depending on your taste.

For game mechanic, the challenges are reasonable and it's clear what stats the challenges are testing. The cost of failure is never so high that a single mistake ruins my play through.

Overall, I find it very enjoyable.

Fallen Hero is a text based interactive novel series that you play a powerful telepath ex-superhero who returns and is now the newest supervillain. There are two games: Rebirth and Retribution so far in a planned 4 game series. There are loads of identity porn (the player character can possess other people and am juggling two bodies and three identities), hurt/comfort, complicated messed up relationship with other characters with hidden depth, and interesting world building. You can play a male, female, or genderqueer character and dates an evil scientist, the PC's former teammates, the young hero idolizing the PC, or The PC's most dangerous opponent on the team, or at the same time.

What I like about the series is the wide variety of freedom and story variables. You can play a mass killing monster, or a soft hearted villain who the others suspects that they aren't villain at all. The replayability is high because you can choose the PC's motives, their method of supervillaincy and their choice in different missions. I'm often surprised by how I miss when reading others' playthrough.

The Fantasy Heroine Series by Jill Bearup: A #shorts series in which all your favourite and least favourite tropes are (affectionately) prodded at. There are 51 one-minute episodes arranged in a playlist.

It's a tongue in cheeks series that lampshades fantasy romance tropes. The writer Caroline is looking for a generic fantasy white girl heroine. Instead she gets Rosamund, a 36-year-old widowed mother of two, who can handle a sword only when it's proportional to her weight.

Caroline really wants to set Rosamund up with Hot Enemy Leo, while Rosamund is busy defending her children's inheritance after the murder of her husband. Therefore Catherine keeps throwing tropes (only one bed, fake marriage, etc) at Rosamund, who often surprises Caroline with her choices.

Caroline and Rosamund's back and forth are fun to watch. I really like the fourth wall breaking humour, and the writer clearly knows the tropes enough to make an affectionate parody.

There are currently 35 fics on AO3: link. The main ship is Rosamund/Leo, the canon couple. It's also requested in past Yuletide.

Bulletproof: the kink or trope that you like so much that you'll read it regardless of petty things like ship or fandom.

Bulletproof exchange is a discord based exchange that you're only guaranteed to get a fic for the tropes of your heart. As I have very slowly read through the fics, I make a themed femslash rec list. They are so good that I read them regardless of my lack of canon knowledge. Dark like chocolate, or angst like fine wine:

hold you close and hear you cry by liesmyth (The Locked Tomb Series by Tamsyn Muir, Coronabeth/Ianthe, Coronabeth/Ianthe/OFC)

Trope: Codependent dysfunctional nobility sibling incest, Siblings in a Threesome With a Third Party, Improper use of flesh magic (Locked Tomb style)

Summary:

On Ida, the brightest jewel in the Emperor’s crown, a certain level of debauchery was expected—nay, it was encouraged. The Third House was a place of overwrought drama and grotesque wonders, of excess and gluttony and thoroughly bad taste; the Emperor’s greedy mouth, hungry and wide open. They knew how to throw a party, and they knew how to make it live on in infamy. And, when the lights were out, it was only natural to expect a little freakishness between the sheets.

Or: the Princesses of Ida do everything together.

so savage with red desperation by liesmyth (The Locked Tomb Series by Tamsyn Muir, Coronabeth/Ianthe)

Trope: consensual cannibalism, Codependency

Summary:

Ianthe’s hand was still on her face. “Oh, baby, I won’t leave you. You’re mine.”

You are mine, Corona thought fiercely. She opened her mouth and bit on her sister’s finger, hard.

Clear as a Crystal, Sharp as a Knife by RussetFiredrake (Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, Narrator/Rebecca)

Trope: Ambiguous/Open Ending, Is It All A Dream?, ego death, Lesbian oral sex

Summary: A young woman marries a widower and moves into his home in the country. But is his wife as dead as she seems?

the art and science of avoiding loneliness by Ericine (Star Trek: Picard, Raffi Musiker/Seven of Nine)

Trope: Mecha AU, Porn with feeling

Summary: “It’s not the kind of thing that’s supposed to happen to a hero, not a washed up disgrace and her nearly-decommissioned partner.“ AU where Seven’s a Mecha and Raffi’s her pilot. And they fall in love.

Shadow of the Evening by RussetFiredrake (The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien, Arwen Undómiel/Éowyn)

Trope: Bad future, loyalty kink, let me be your sword

Summary:

Sauron's defeat did not end evil in Middle Earth; it only ended his reign in Mordor. With Aragorn and Faramir both dead in the War of the Ring, Arwen has taken up the crown in Gondor. A gentle woman still at times requires a sword, however, and she has found one in Éowyn of Rohan, ever willing to put her own life in danger.
