Challenge #13: Make a rec list of fanworks!

I love fanworks in unconventional POV and styles which tell stories in interesting ways. I also love to see fanwork for something I never expect to see. These following fics showcase fans' creativity and can be read canon blind.

Remarks: Murdle is a daily logic puzzle to solve crime. It's amazing how well Grayswandir incorporates the puzzle format in this interactive fanwork to tell an entertaining story.

Summary: The official mission report says that there was an uncharted lunar eclipse on Compliance Celebration Day for world 63-[REDACTED]. The Mournival knows this is horseshit.
Remarks: It's presented as an in-universe mission report about a suspiciously missing lunar satellite. I really love the humour in characters' aside and the great use of [redacted]

Remarks: It's a fun story told through recipe and meal preparation. The second person POV effectively shows the sisters' distinctive voice. It's amusing how Margot decides the theme of "lazy fancy", but doesn't really know what to so other than wanting to invent a cute bruschetta in the colors of the Italian flag,

Bulletproof: the kink or trope that you like so much that you'll read it regardless of petty things like ship or fandom.

Bulletproof exchange is a discord based exchange that you're only guaranteed to get a fic for the tropes of your heart. As I have very slowly read through the fics, I make a themed femslash rec list. They are so good that I read them regardless of my lack of canon knowledge. Dark like chocolate, or angst like fine wine:

Trope: Codependent dysfunctional nobility sibling incest, Siblings in a Threesome With a Third Party, Improper use of flesh magic (Locked Tomb style)

Trope: Bad future, loyalty kink, let me be your sword

Summary:

Sauron's defeat did not end evil in Middle Earth; it only ended his reign in Mordor. With Aragorn and Faramir both dead in the War of the Ring, Arwen has taken up the crown in Gondor. A gentle woman still at times requires a sword, however, and she has found one in Éowyn of Rohan, ever willing to put her own life in danger.

Life, Love and Lord Gangrok by htbthomas (Doris & Mary-Anne Are Breaking Out Of Prison (Web Series), Doris Delaney/Mary-Anne)

Summary: Two girls on the lam get a little help from their Lord (and each other). Doris & Mary-Anne Are Breaking Out Of Prison is about the comedic antics of two gals stuck in prison during the Roaring 1920s: link to the series

Comment: fun and sweet, with a lot of lovely small details.

(There was nothing a husband could do for Constance that I couldn’t, except take her name away from her and give her a baby.)

Comment: a beautiful, yet dark and unsettling character study of a codependent relationship

Challenge #11

In your own space, Talk about your favorite trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

My favourite trope is pining, as long as the person doesn't think they're entitled to being loved back. I love it in all favours: Mutual but both are unaware/can't do anything about it, one-side that grows into mutual, a person who stoically pines and cares for years resigned to the hopelessness, denial of feeling breaking out... It's a great source of angst that can be resolved happily.

The Diver by Carolyn_Spencer: One does not need to be well trained in the paths of logic to discern the meaning of the vision. I am the diver, and he, of course, the sea.

Catching Light: His mother did not think Spock understood loneliness for what it is, that he did not understand the way it creeps unbidden into a heart and splits like a wound. She did not think he felt its socketed mouth twisted open and yawning at the heart of him, hungry to be fed.

I really like Matt Farrell/John McClane in Live Free or Die Hard (2007). This gives me an excuse to get into the fics again.

Getting to Know You by miss_pryss: Post-movie, John and Matt decide to have shared fun days together. Very funny to read. (I like when Matt put on disguise for buying a taco ). I really loves the pining

Any Measure of Peace: The summary is misleading. The story is a bit dark, but it's a very solid and meaty AU.
How Deep the Bullet Lies: "This is drowning, their first meeting all over again, the natural conclusion of the moment Charles felt Erik in the water, fevered with anguish and history." Charles, from the beginning to the end.
Fear the Rest: Charles Xavier's never been sure how it became a war. This is how. The story of the founding of the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants. It's written before XM:FC comes out, so jossed. But it's still good.
Freefall AU. If Scott had been a little quicker on the uptake, X2 might have gone more like this. After an impromptu prison break, the X-Men, Magneto, and Mystique try to work together without anyone falling apart. Gen, with references to various pairings.
All the Fear You left Behind: "Erik has had one goal. He’s spent his life in relentless pursuit of it and has given almost no thought to what would come after he achieves it."

Ending AU (dream ending) So Charles still gets shot and is crying in Erik’s arms- but instead of leaving, Erik realizes that being vengeful will only ever hurt the man he loves. So he stays with Charles and confesses his ~feelings~ and kisses him and takes care of him as he gets better and they’re beautiful and in love. Please. I need this. Not very plotty, I'm afraid, but very nice h/c
Open (absolutely heartbreaking) More than anything, Erik wants to protect Charles from the world, from the humans he knows will eventually betray them. There’s an innocence and naivety to Charles, and Erik wants to preserve that for as long as he can.
Need & Nova Charles attempts to help Erik focus, but dredging up old traumatic memories leaves Erik an emotional wreck. Charles comforts him.
Scars What’s under Erik’s turtleneck, hmm? Maybe he only ever wants to canoodle with his shirt on or in the dark. Charles finally coaxes him into showing him, and h/c ensues. Doesn’t have to be terribly graphic or have sex either, I just like the angst and the h/c aspect.
Call Me By His Name Charles wakes from the absence of noise. There is an empty space in his room, beside his bed. Not quiet as in an abandoned room, but utterly, featurelessly blank. Like a box made of unblemished, impenetrable metal and Charles knows before he opens his eyes.

X-Men First Class Fic rec
