The questions come from [personal profile] flo_nelja, which I found via [personal profile] queenslayerbee.

1) First time you encoutered canon femslash

When I was a kid, a popular costume crime drama featured an villain main wife/concubine f/f couple in an one-off episode. They were very in love! The main wife saw the concubine's baby son as her child, and committed suicide after the concubine's death, because media that day wouldn't allow a lesbian couple to be happy and alive. I was very sad for them and still yearned for main wife/concubine femslash.

2) First times you encountered femslash shipping

I first came across femslash shipping in Star Trek: TOS. Uhura/Christine and Amanda/OFC have a dedicated following.

3) Is femslash the main part of your fandom life?

No, sadly, because I have drifted away from fandoms recently.

4) Have you already started a canon just because you knew there would be femslash shipping opportunities?

Daughters of the Dragon (Marvel comics). Misty/Colleen is such a great ship!

5) Canon, subtext, or make-everything-work-by-yourself ships?

It didn't matter to me, but more canon f/f ships is great in general.

6) A femslash ship you feel like you're alone in shipping

Demon King Nobunaga/f!Ritsuka (Fate: Grand Order). It's dark and fascinating, but I can't really recommend others to check out a gacha game canon.

7) Did you see a change in femslash fandom since the time you started fandom?

Back in the days, canon same sex couples in media was nearly impossible. Now there are more media with canon f/f couples, which is a great thing.

8) Some femslash poly ships? What are your opinions about f/f/m poly?

I don't have much poly ships in general. I once read a woman getting a more sexually naive woman to bed through inviting her to a f/f/m threesome. I wonder if there are fics that run with this idea. It'll be wonderfully messy.

9) Do you feel like shipping femslash is different from shipping slash, het or other? How?

Usually there are fewer fellow fans. Maybe I just haven't got into popular f/f pairings.

10) Favourites tropes for femslash ships?

Same for all my ships: pining, loyalty kink, and competence.

11) Fluff, humor, angst, or smut?

They are all good to me.

12) Are there some m/m or m/f ships that you love genderswapped as f/f?

I really love genderswapped version of Steve Rogers/Tony Stark. The fanwork creators are very talented exploring how gender affect the social perception of characters.

13) Did you already write original femslash? If so, what was it about? If not, what would it be about if you did? If you would never, why?

They are in my drawer. XD. It's a harem main wife/concubine ship.

14) Favorite femslash ship of all times

Misty/Colleen. I had fun writing them.

15) A guilty pleasure

Sweet delicate woman more dangerous than she looks/loyal buff lady knight

16) A fandom where I have so many femslash ships

Marvel comics, because of the huge cast of female characters.

17) A femslash pairing I like on principle without even being in the fandom

Relena/Dorothy (Gundam Wing). Idealist/Cynic rocks.

18) A character I headcanon as lesbian/wlw without having big ships with her

I usually headcanon female characters as lesbian/wlw unless explicitly stated otherwise. XD.

19) Rec day! Canon or fics, as long as it's femslash! Or even shippable!

Gladiator by Dami Im (music video): fantasy lady warrior/princess

20) Do you like your femslash homophobia-free?

It depends. Sometimes I want escapism. Sometimes I want nuance.

21) Thoughts about lesbian tragedy and bad endings?

If you kill off the only lesbian character, or making lesbian tragedy solely a lesson for a het couple to feel good about themselves, I will sideeye your work a lot.

22) Thoughts about (purely fictional!) lesbian unhealthy relationships?

People should write what they want without being judged with their characters' morality.

23) Historical, fantasy or sci-fi? (or, if none of the above, what and why?)

All of the above.

24) A time where a canon really surprised you, in a good (and femslash) way

I'm still pleasantly surprised with canon f/f in The Legend of Korra, even though I haven't watched the show.

25) A time where a canon really disappointed you (in a femslash or lack of femslash way).

I never forgot how The Private Patient by P. D. James used lesbian tragedy solely as an excuse that the male main character can mansplain and condesend to the lesbian victim's spouse. I'm forever bitter how some critics hailed this as great lgbt representation.

26) What do you love the most, and what do you love the least, about femslash fans?

Femslash fans are people too, with the same high and low as other fans.

27) Very last time you encountered canon femslash. Was it a surprise or were you looking for it?

It's a baihe novel, so I know it right away.

28) Now answer the important question about femslash I've forgotten to ask.

I'm glad that more baihe novels get translated and licensed.

Pining, loyalty kink, and competence are such great tropes 💖💖💖 And I love the dynamic of "delicate lady is actually super deadly, but everyone assumes her bodyguard is more of a threat" 😁

I was watching along with The Legend of Korra as it was airing and that f/f-canon ending was such a pleasant surprise 💙

Thank you for sharing that music video link!
